By Therese Lisieux on July 20th, 2009Henry Surtees, a Formula Two driver, died after his race car had an accident. Surtees, 18, is the son of John Surtees, 75, the 1964 Formula One World Champion. Henry Surtees was hit on his head by a wheel and tire from Jack Clarke’s car. Clarke’s car broke up when it hit the wall at Westfield Bend.
After Surtees was hit, he lost consciousness and thus couldn’t navigate the Sheene corner of the race track. Surtees’ car collided with the barriers. Surtees was removed from his car and airlifted to hospital. Surtees was driving in the Brands hatch circuit when tragedy struck.
