John Brown (May 9, 1800 – December 2, 1859) was a famous abolitionist in American history. Brown lived before the American Civil War. Brown had predicted that taking up arms was the only way to end slavery.

Brown led an uprising against the State of Virginia. When Brown failed, he was sentenced to death by hanging for his treachery. About 16 months after his death, the American Civil War started.
