Jisselle Salandy: Boxing champ Jisselle Salandy died
By Therese Lisieux on January 5th, 2009Jisselle Salandy, a boxing champion from Trinidad, has died on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009. Salandy, 21, died from injuries in a car accident. Salandy’s car went off the road and crashed into a concrete column.
Salandy’s passenger, Tamer Watson, is a national soccer player. Watson was injured and her condition was serious. Watson was warded at the Port-of-Spain hospital.
Salandy started boxing at 11. Salandy won her welterweight title in 2002 at age 16. That was a controversial boxing match because she was younger than the minimum age of 18. In Trinidad, the minimum age for professional fighters is 18.
