By Therese Lisieux on November 14th, 2008J. James Marzilli Jr., the State Senator from Arlington, has resigned. J. James Marzilli Jr is facing charges of sexually accosting a few women earlier in 2008. Jim Marzilli’s resignation would be effective at 5 pm Friday, Nov. 14. It has been alleged that Jim Marzilli approached women in downtown Lowell.
Marzilli tendered his resignation in one sentence – “I hereby offer my resignation, effective at 5PM on Friday, Nov. 14.”
Marzilli was arrested in June after he approached the women. The news of Marzilli’s arrest puzzled his Democrat colleagues. Jim James Marzilli had a low profile in public after his arrest. However, he travelled to Berlin, Germany, for a conference. Terrence W. Kennedy, Marzilli’s lawyer, said his client did not break the law as he was not banned from travelling and no taxpayer funds were used in the overseas trip.
