Oct 12 2010 – The jury recommended that Jessie Dotson receive the death penalty and sentence to die by lethal injection. Dotson was convicted on all 6 counts of first degree murder.
Before he killed 6 people, Dotson was a convicted killer who had served 14 years in prison. Dotson was released 7 months before he killed his brother (Cecil Dotson), his brother’s girlfriend (Marissa Williams), two other adults in the house (Hollis Seals and Shindri Roberson) and two nephews who were 4 and 2 years old (Cemario Dotson & Cecil Dotson Jr II).
The survivors were Cecil Dotson Jr, now 11, Cedric Dotson, 8 and a girl, then 2 months old. They survived 40 hours before they were found with injuries.
Dotson will receive his sentencing on Nov 12, 2010. He is likely to be executed on March 2, 2012. However, Dotson’s lawyers are expected to appeal against the death sentence and this will delay his death sentence.
Oct 11 2010 – The Jury convicted Jessie Dotson of killing his own brother during an argument. Dotson then tried to kill others in the house to eliminate the witnesses. Cecil Dotson Jr, the son of the murdered man, testified that his uncle was responsible.
Cecil Dotson Jr had a 4.5 inch blade stuck in his skull when he was found in a bath tub. He survived to become a key prosecution witness. Cecil was afraid to name his uncle as the killer in the house. Initially, Cecil said a man named Roderick or Roger was the attacker. Later, he said Uncle Junior was the killer. Cecil, then 9 in 2008, said his uncle shot his father and stabbed him and others in the home.
Jessie Dotson said he was innocent and blamed the murders on a gang attack because he ratted on them. Dotson then said he hid under a bed while the gang was present in his brother’s home. Jessie then claimed he didn’t make a police report immediately as he was afraid for his own life. Jessie Dotson left the house using a child’s bicycle.
Jessie Dotson or the gunman’s two guns were never found. The prosecution had 450 pieces of evidence and the jury was shown photos of the crime scene. Some members of the jury became emotional after looking at the pictures.
