In 2004, when Jack Ryan campaigned for the Senate, he and Jeri Ryan agreed to have their divorce records released. Around 1998, Jeri Ryan had accused her then husband of trying to engage her to perform sex acts in public in sex clubs. Jeri Ryan alleged Jack asked her to participate in sex acts in the clubs in New York, New Orleans and overseas in Paris. Jeri Ryan said one of those sex clubs was bizarre in having cages, whips and other equipment hanging from the ceiling. Jack Ryan denied her allegations in the divorce records. Jeri Ryan declined to comment on her divorce records and allegations. This disclosure on their divorce records led Jack Ryan to withdraw his Republican candidacy for an open United States Senate seat in Illinois.

Barack Obama won his 2004 U.S. Senate race when he defeated Republican Alan Keyes with 70 percent of the vote. Mr. Keyes was a late replacement for primary winner Jack Ryan. Jack Ryan dropped out of the race when after his divorce records revealed his ex-wife, Jeri Ryan, had accused him of asking her to engage in sex clubs’ activities.
