By Angie Anthony on November 5th, 2008Jeremy Clarkson, a BBC show host, has been complained about by his viewers. Jeremy Clarkson is the host of the TV auto show, “Top Gear.” Clarkson, in Top Gear, had cracked a joke about truck drivers killing prostitutes. Clarkson had inspiration for this joke from a real case. Steve Wright, a former truck driver, was convicted of killing 5 prostitutes in southeast England. Steve Wright was found guilty and convicted in Feb. 2008.
What did Clarkson say? Its below.
Clarkson made a joke about a truck driver murdering a prostitute and it was watched by about 7 million viewers. Jeremy Clarkson said - “Change gear, change gear, check mirror, murder a prostitute, change gear, change gear, murder…”
The BBC received around 500 complaints about Jeremy Clarkson and his tasteless, lewd joke demeaning truck drivers and prostitutes.
The BBC issued a statement that did not offer apologies for Clarkson’s remark. The broadcasting corporation said - “The vast majority of “Top Gear” viewers have clear expectations of Jeremy Clarkson’s long-established and frequently provocative on-screen persona,” the BBC said in a statement. “This particular reference was used to comically exaggerate and make ridiculous an unfair urban myth about the world of lorry driving and was not intended to cause offense.”
British media regulator Ofcom has received some complaints about Jeremy Clarkson but it is presently not taking any action.
