Jennifer Lea Burton has been indicted for sexual assault and inappropriate relations with a student. Burton, 39, is a teacher in Orangefield Middle School. Burton was accused of having a relationship with a female student from the same middle school. Burton has resigned from her teacher post Monday, April 13.

Burton was indicted last week for 3 counts of sexual assault and 3 counts of inappropriate relations with a student who is a minor. These are second degree felony charges. Burton faces penalties of 2 years probation or up to 20 years in prison. There is a fine of $10,000 for each count of second degree felony.

Burton is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student, 14, for 3 months in 2008. Orangefield Middle School learned of Burton’s allegations a fortnight ago and placed her on leave.
