The original post below is no longer effective.

Jennifer Figge is the first woman to swim across the Atlantic Ocean. Figge told it was her dream to swim across the Atlantic, since the 1960s.

Figge finally fulfilled her dream when she became 56. Figge swam from Cape Verde Islands off Africa’s west coast. Figge swam against waves of up to 30 feet. Figge faced fierce winds that whipped against her. Figge originally planned to swim the Bahamas but the strong weather forced her to swim 1000 miles to Trinidad.

Figge arrived in Trinidad on Feb 5. Figge intends to swim from Trinidad to the British Virgin Islands. Only then will Figge head for home. Figge will then return to Aspen, Colorado.

  1. Michael Phelps Says:

Let’s do the math: 2,100 miles in 24 days = 80 miles per day divided by 8 hour swim = 10 miles per hour!!!
