Jeffrey Merritt: bank robber foiled by unarmed waitress

Jeffrey Merritt, 44, was a suspect in an armed robbery in Valrico State Bank in Hillborough County, Florida. Jeffrey Merritt had supposedly robbed the bank and had run out of it.

Merritt was running towards his getaway car when he ran past Da Silva’s Coffee Shop. A waitress, who was trained as a police officer while in Germany, gave chase and shouted for him to stop or she would shoot. Te waitress was unarmed but she knew what to do. Merritt believed she was armed and fell for her trick. The waitress tackled him and managed to disarm him. Bystanders helped her detain Merritt by sitting on him and waited until police arrived.
