Jeffrey Conroy, 17, has been charged with second degree murder and hate crime on Marcello Lucero, 37, an Ecuadoran immigrant. Lucero was waking in Patchogue, NY, when he was attacked by Jeffrey Conroy and 6 others. Police believed Jeffrey Conroy stabbed Lucero.

The group of 7 faced the same charges of assault, conspiracy and gang assault charges. All 7 admitted involvement but all pleaded not guilty. The other 6 boys are Anthony Hartford, 17, Kevin Shea, 17, Jordan Dasch, 17, Nicholas Hausch, 17, Jose Pacheco, 17, and Christopher Overton, 16. Dasch will face an extra charge of criminal mischief.
