Jay Bennett: Jay Bennett died
By Clarencia Cynrae on May 25th, 2009Updated June 24 2009 – The coroner said Jay Bennett died from an overdose of fentanyl, a painkiller found in external patches. Fentanyl is used to treat chronic pain. Bennett had a fentanyl patch on his back when he was found. The coroner’s office said the investigation remains open.

Jay Bennett, a musician and former member of the band named Wilco, has died. Bennett died in his sleep. Bennett was 45. There will be an autopsy to determine cause of death.
Jay Bennett did not leave Wilco amicably. Bennett was booted. In early May 2009, Bennett had fled a lawsuit against Wilco’s leader, Jeff Tweedy. Bennett had claimed for damages exceeding $50,000, for breach of contract in issues related to the film, “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart”.
Bennett had revealed that he had a torn ACL and need a hip replacement surgery. Bennett disclosed his lack of health insurance prevented him from obtaining one earlier.
