Jason Austin charged for killing Robert Soto and Kathryn Romberg

Robert Soto, Chicago Police Officer, and Kathryn Romberg, a DCFS supervisor, were killed. Jason Austin, 26, of the 500 block of North LeClaire Avenue, has been charged with the murders.

Jason Austin was charged with 2 counts of first degree murder and 1 count of robbery. Jason Austin was remanded without bail. Thomas Byrne, Chief of Detectives, said that they had Detective Soto’s words and they know the motive for the murder.

Robert Soto was shot and he called 911 to report that he was shot and a victim of a robbery. Robert Soto told that 3 men fled in a runaway maroon colored car. The robbery happened on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Both Robert Soto and Kathryn Romberg were shot at the 300 block of West Franklin Boulevard on the West Side of Chicago.

Kathryn Romberg, 45, died at the scene of the crime. Robert Soto, 49, died on Thursday, August 14, 2008. Soto and Romberg were seated in his SUV talking when they were robbed and shot. The sports utility was parked outside her daughter’s condominium. Kathryn Romberg was a supervisor with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Jason Austin’s Aunt Polly White said he was not involved and his car was at the shop when the robbery happened. Jason Austin’s lawyer, Steve Decker, said that they were going to prove the location of Austin’s car. He suggested the police might have been hasty in arresting Jason Austin.

    If you believe Jason Austin’s aunt, Polly White, stating “he was not involved and his car was at the shop”…you’ll also believe his aunt is a true “blond” give me a break…this aunt is probably getting a cut of the money he gets from his robberies…
