James Traficant: James Traficant released September 2 2009

By Clarencia Cynrae on August 14th, 2009

James Traficant, a former Congressman, will be released from prison on September 2, 2009. A minor league baseball team, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, in Youngstown, in Ohio wanted to organize an event to commemorate the day but canceled it.

The event that was originally promoted was the “Traficant Release Night”. Many complaints forced the team to cancel the event.

James Traficant has served 7 years for bribery and federal charges. Traficant was granted an earlier release to a halfway house in March 2009 but he refused to accept the terms.

Tish Traficant, James’ wife, said the man managing the halfway house had testified against her husband in 2002. Mr Traficant had objected to that and opted to stay in prison until he gets freed at the end of his sentence on September 2, 2009.
