James Kirkland was billed to fight Oscar de la Hoya on Saturday night but because he was jailed, he could not make it. Kirkland, 25, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon, which was a violation of his probation. Kirkland had served 6 months for robbery and he was released on 8 years probation.
On April 19, police found James Kirkland in a car with a weapon and ammunition. Kirkland was arrested for violation of his probation. On Friday, May 1, Kirkland appeared in court to ask for bail so that he could travel to Las Vegas for his fight Saturday. The judge denied him.
