Idris Herring, a social worker at Westside Academy, Detroit, is being lauded as a hero. Herring saw a male student rushing through the metal detector at Westside Academy on Thursday, April 2.

Herring saw the teen carrying a gun so he stopped the boy. Herring wrestled him to the ground. The boy fled away without his weapon. The gun was a sawed-off shotgun. Police are trying to get an arrest warrant on the boy.

The male student was alleged to have had an altercation with another student at Westside Academy before he carried out the shotgun from his vehicle.
