Hubert Stanley Tate, 65, of Lula, had a one hour long standoff with Hall County Sheriff deputies. Hubert Stanley Tate was described as an old country boy and good neighbor.

Roy Turner said that his son, Lula Mayor Milton Turner, used to spend time in Hubert Stanley Tate’s house when he was a teen.

None of the neighbors could have anticipated Hubert Stanley Tate’s behavior in a thousand dreams. He was normal, except that sometimes, and only sometimes, he had strange ideas.

Hubert Stanley Tate injured a deputy and held off the law enforcement officers for 1 hour before he was shot dead. Other neighbors like Geneva Armour and Gene Patterson expressed disbelief and shock.
