Hiroshi Nohara: Japanese tourist Nohara lives in Mexico airport

By Clarencia Cynrae on November 24th, 2008

Hiroshi Nohara, a Japanese tourist, loved Mexico City’s airport so much he has lived there for 3 months. Hiroshi Nohara fell in love with Terminal 1 of the Benito Juarez International Airport and sits around during the day. Nohara survives on donations of food from fast food restaurants and visitors. Nohara set foot in the airport on September 2 and he has not left it yet.

Nohara’s behaviour resembled the plot of the movie, “The Terminal”, made in 2004. The actor Tom Hanks starred in this story about a man from East Europe who was stuck in an airport in NYC. Nohara has become famous and Mexico’s TV News trail him and create reports of his life at the food court. Tourists or even the locals pose with Hiroshi Nohara to get his pictures. Nohara denied that he was copying his life based on the artistic movie.

Hiroshi Nohara could not explain his fascination for the airport or why he feels he wants to stay there. Nohara’s appearance is unkempt and his clothes are worn. As he is a TV celebrity, stores donated merchandize in the hopes that it will generate some free publicity when the TV cameras train on him. Silvia Navarrete del Toro, an airport janitor, said Nohara was a nice man. There are photos of Hiroshi Nohara at the link.
