Hero Greg McKendry killed at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church shooting

There was a Sunday shooting at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church in Knoxville, on July 27 2008. Greg McKendry, 60, a church member and usher, stood in front of the gunman in a bid to protect the others who were children.


Greg McKendry was shot and killed. His foster son, Taylor Bessette, wants to send this message out to the world. Tell everyone that Greg McKendry was a hero.

Greg McKendry and a group of kids were in a play, Annie, when a gun man came from backstage. He carried a guitar case. Taylor Bessette, from backstage, said he heard some blasts. The police are investigating and more will be revealed later.

Greg McKendry is survived by his wife, Barbara McKendry.

Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church shooting suspect Jim D. Adkisson, 58, was charged with first degree murder. Jim D. Adkisson was held in police custody on a bond of $1 Million.
