This week is the 50th anniversary of the Clutter family killings. Herbert Clutter, his wife Bonnie Me Fox, and his children, Kenyon Clutter and Nancy Clutter, were murdered in 1959. On November 15, some people will remember the deaths of the Clutter family.
Herbert Clutter and his family lived in Holcomb, Kansas. Truman Capote wrote a book called “In Cold Blood”, to tell about the Clutter family’s death on November 15, 1959.
Dick Hickock and Perry Smith were tried for the murders of the Clutter family. Hickock and Smith were found guilty and sentenced to death. Hickock and Smith’s motive for the killings was robbery. Hickock and Smith believed that the Clutter family kept a large amount of cash at home.
Truman Capote wrote In Cold Blood in 1965 and some people disagreed with his presentation of what he perceived were the facts in the Clutter family murders.
Herbert Clutter was a rich farmer. Bonnie Me Fox had a spine problem and was often sick in bed. Eveanna Clutter was the eldest daughter who had married and lived in Illinois. Beverly Clutter, the second daughter, studies nursing in Kansas City. Kenyon Clutter was 15 and Nancy Clutter was 16 in 1959.
The Clutter family was killed on Saturday night. On Sunday, their neighbors dropped by and discovered the dead bodies. The Clutter family was brutally killed in cold blood by shotgun.
Investigators found two sets of footprints and their footwear was distinctive. The authorities withheld this information from the public as they hoped to trace the footwear before the criminals had the chances to discard them.
Nothing of value was stolen from the house, except for Kenyon Clutter’s small, transistor radio.
Floyd Wells, a convict in prison, told the story of how Hickock was interested to rob and kill the Clutter family.
