Harry Potter Lexicon banned
By Therese Lisieux on September 9th, 2008JK Rowling won her lawsuit on her copyright claim over Steven Vander Ark’s proposed “The Harry Potter Lexicon.”
JK Rowling successfully argued that “The Harry Potter Lexicon” plagiarized huge portions of her original works. US District Judge Robert P. Patterson said that JK Rowling had proven that she would suffer irreparable harm as a writer if “The Harry Potter Lexicon” was published. US publisher RDR Books failed to establish their claim for fair use for the Harry Potter lexicon.
The judge permanently banned the publication of “The Harry Potter Lexicon” and awarded Rowling and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. $6,750 in statutory damages. Steven Vander Ark’s harry Potter Lexicon website is still available.
