Hannah Foster: Maninder Pal Singh Kohli sentenced for killing Foster

By Clarencia Cynrae on November 26th, 2008

Hannah Foster, 17, was a bright student at school. Hilary Foster and Trevor Foster were proud of their daughter, Hannah. One day, Hannah Foster was raped and killed by Maninder Pal Singh Kohli. Kohli, 41, escaped from the UK, where he committed the crime, and returned to India. Kohli felt safe in India as he thought he would not face extradition to stand trial in the UK.

Hannah Foster was abducted while walking back home on March 14, 2003. Hannah Foster was tricked into Kohli’s van, where he raped and strangled her. After Foster was killed, Kohli left Britain, his wife Shalinder and two sons, ages 4 and 6. Kohli was arrested in India near the Nepal border with a fake passport and a new wife. It took a very long time to get the India justice system to extradite Kohli. On July 29, 2007, he became the first person ever to be extradited from India to the UK.

Kohli did not reckon the perseverance of the Foster family. Hilary Foster and Trevor Foster travelled to India to seek justice for their murdered daughter. Kohli was convicted and sentenced to serve a minimum of 24 years in prison.

Hannah Foster left behind her parents, Hilary Foster and Trevor Foster, and her elder sister, Sarah Foster, 20.

Hannah Foster,
RIP.
