Goodbye Kwame Kilpatrick, Hello Ken Cockrel Jr.
By Clarencia Cynrae on September 5th, 2008Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded guilty Thursday to obstruction of justice charges. In a plea deal, Kwame Kilpatrick will resign from office.
In return, Kwame Kilpatrick, 38, will serve 4 months in prison. The long story is here.
Ken Cockrel Jr. will takeover as Detroit’s 61st mayor. Ken Cockrel Jr. will e the Mayor of Detroit until a special election is held to select a new Mayor. Ken Cockrel Jr., current president of the Detroit city council, will take over as Mayor in two weeks. Ken Cockrel Jr.’s first mesage requested for co-operation and healing after the long and bitter battle from some people to oust Kwame Kilpatrick.

Kwame Kilpatrick shook hands with Christine Beatty. His wife, Carlita Kilpatrick, was in the courtroom and this was the first time the two women have been in the same public room since the scandal was exposed in January 2008. The short story on Kilpatrick is here.
