Don Ripo was the flight engineer of Eastern Airlines Flight 401. The ghost of Flight 402 was allegedly of Don Ripo. Ripo died when the plane crashed as he was down below in the plane’s belly, checking some mechanisms.

The ghost of Flight 401 supposedly haunted airplanes which had salvaged parts from the crashed Flight 401. The fatalities were at least 101 in December 1972. Even one of the first ground rescuers died, one month after the rescue.

Pilot error was blamed for flight 401 crashing into the Florida Everglades. Eastern Airlines salvaged some parts of the doomed plane and fitted the parts into their other planes. There were rumors of ghost sightings on the other planes. The ghost was allegedly that of flight engineer Don Ripo.

Eastern Airlines threatened to sue the movie producers who released the film called “The Ghost of Flight 401″. However, they commissioned the secret removal of the spare parts that were fitted into their other planes.
