Updated Sep 15 – George Jaramillo received his sentencing. George Jaramillo was sentenced to 27 months in prison. Additionally, Jaramillo has to pay a fine of $50,000, undergo probation for 3 years. Jaramillo said she was sorry for his actions.

Updated April 27 – Michael “Mike” Carona has been sentenced to 66 months in prison. Carona has to pay a fine of $125,000. Carona remains free on bail until July 24. His lawyers plan to appeal against his sentence.

Mike Carona has been acquitted of almost all charges. Carona was shaking as the verdicts were read in court. Carona then began crying with his head down on his counsel’s table. It was shocking and Carona broke down with gratitude.

Carona was convicted on a second count of witness tampering. The penalty for that was not stated. Read the details here.

Greg Haidl: Michael Carona & George Jaramillo involved in Haidl

The former Sheriff Michael S Carona has been accused of corruption. Mrs Carona, his wife, and his mistress have separate trials in February on similar crimes. Carona is accused of trying to persuade the D.A. to try Greg Haidl as a juvenile. Greg Haidl’s rape case was revisited because of the new accusations.

Haidl, 16 at the time of the case, is the son of (the then) assistant sheriff Don Haidl. Greg Haidl and 2 friends were accused of raping a woman in Don Haidl’s home in Newport Beach. The assault happened in July 2002. Greg Haidl’s and his friends’ sexual attacks were videotaped. The first trial had a hung jury in favor of an acquittal. The second trial convicted the 3 young men. Each man served 6 years. They have been released after their prison terms.

Former Assistant Sheriff George Jaramillo is accused of pleading with the D.A., Orange County Dist. Atty. Tony Rackauckas, for Greg Haidl to be charged as a juvenile. Rackauckas had his opinion that Carano and Jaramillo were together in the case of pleading for Greg Haidl.
