Updated June 1 2009 – The authorities are pessimistic. They think Air France Flight 447 has sunk into the Atlantic Ocean. There are little or no hopes for the rescue of passengers and crew.
Air France has started to offer condolences to the victims of Flight 447.

Air France lost a jet en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. Air France lost 228 people in the jet that disappeared over the Atlanta Ocean. Air France Flight 447, which was an Airbus A330, left Rio de Janeiro Sunday, May 31 at 7 pm Brazil local time. Flight 447 had 216 passengers and 12 crew.
Air France Flight 447 disappeared around 186 miles northeast of the coastal Brazilian city of Natal and near Fernando de Noronha. Fernando de Noronha is an island off the country’s mainland.

Updated June 2 – Brazilian defense Minister Nelson Jobim gave a statement on Tuesday, June 2. Jobim confirmed that the debris in the ocean was from Air France A330 Flight 447.
Updated June 2 – The latest news on Air France Flight 447 said that unidentified and unconfirmed wreckage was found about 400 miles north of the Brazilian archipelago of Fernando de Noronha. Airplane seats, metal debris, oil and kerosene were sighted. The debris has yet to be positively identified with Flight 447.
Updated June 8 2009 – 17 bodies have been recovered from the sea. Hundreds of personal belongings and parts of plane wreckage have been retrieved from the ocean.

Updated June 25 – The body of the pilot, Marc Dubois, has been positively identified as one of the dead plucked out from the sea.
A flight attendant has been identified as one of the dead but the name was not released.
