One of the late Anthony Minghella’s directed work was the BBC 1 film called “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”. This was base on Alexander McCall Smith’s bestseller, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. The main character, a protagonist named Precious Ramotswe, lived in Botswana. US soul singer Jill Scout took this role.

Some critics hated the 100 minute film. One said that it was shallow and did not depict the real passions of the African people. Critics who expected a stereotype of scandalized countries like Zimbabwe and Darfur have difficulty accepting the contrast of Botswana. Botswana was beautiful, peaceful and its people were also good.

A good film about the goodness of human nature was criticized. In contrast, a film that depicted the horrible and evil depth of human nature like No Country For Old Men won acclaim and an Oscar.

Botswana was one of the few countries in Africa that was relatively calm. It has a similar size to Texas and carried a population of 2 million. When its diamond mines were discovered, it became very rich. The wealth was honestly used for the good of the country because the administration was one of the best in Africa.

Jill Scott received a great review. We must remember that she was a singer and suddenly, she has become an actress. Her performance was good.

The author has sold 9 million books in 42 languages in the past decade. How much has the critic done in comparison to that?
