Eunice Kennedy Shriver is hospitalized in the intensive care ward at Cape Cod Hospital. Ms Shriver’s health is in a critical condition but she is stable. Ms Shriver’s husband, children and grandchildren are at her bedside.

Ms Kennedy Shriver is a member of the Kennedy clan. Eunice Kennedy is the sister of US Senator Edward M Kennedy. Ms Kennedy Shriver has been no stranger to hospitals at 88 years old. She had previous brushes with health problems and broken bones.

Eunice Shriver is the founder of the Special Olympics. Ms Shriver received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work with the developmentally disabled in 1984. Ms Shriver had set up the Special Olympics in 1968.

Ms Shriver married Sargent Shriver. Their daughter is Maria Shriver, who is married to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Oprah Winfrey brought her show to Washington DC for the Inauguration. She taped two shows at the Kennedy Center.
