Essie Mae Washington-Williams did not reveal her true identity as late Senator Strom Thurmond’s daughter until after his death at 100. Essie Mae Washington-Williams, 78, wrote a new memoir, Dear Senator: A Memoir by the Daughter of Strom Thurmond.

Essie Mae Washington-Williams related that she did not know who her father was until her mother told her at the age of 16 and brought her to meet Strom Thurmond.
