Ereck Plancher: Ereck Plancher update
By Therese Lisieux on November 2nd, 2008Ereck Plancher, a redshirt freshman wide receiver, may have had struggled with the workouts at Central Florida. James Jamison, a former Central Florida running back, said that the coaches underscored the difficulty of the drills. Ereck Plancher died about 1 hour after one off-season conditioning workout session, on Mar. 18, 2008. Coach George O’Leary had led the workout.
Ereck Plancher’s family members told the Orlando Sentinel that Plancher had collapsed twice before after he did strenuous workouts. Ereck Plancher’s parents have informed the school that they intend to sue Central Florida. When the school was contacted, Central Florida denied knowing about Ereck Plancher’s difficulties with the workouts. Grant Heston, the spokesman for Central Florida, said that the lawsuits have gagged them. Heston said that Central Florida’s coaches and trainers reacted to help Plancher as soon as they saw he was in trouble.
