Barack Obama has selected Elizabeth Alexander, an African-American poet, to be the Inauguration Poet. Elizabeth Alexander will be on stage on Inauguration Day, come January 20, 2009.

Elizabeth Alexander was Joe Biden’s Senate communications director and former press secretary. Biden has asked Elizabeth Alexander to work in the White House as his press secretary.
