Two persons died at the Eldora shooting incident. The first victim was an employee of Eldora Mountain Resort, a skiing resort. A suspect entered an employee’s room, “pump room”, at 7:30 am and shouted religious statements. One staff asked what was going on and he was shot at. He died on the spot.

The sheriff was notified of the Eldora shooting and his deputy responded to an emergency call. The suspect was chased by a Boulder County sheriff’s deputy. The suspect fired at the deputy, who was injured by glass from his shattered windscreen. The deputy returned fire and the suspect was fatally wounded. There might be more information later on about the Eldora shooting suspect’s identity and motive.

Derik Bonestroo, a ski lift operator at the resort, committed suicide after he was wounded by the sheriff deputy. The coroner has determined Bonestroo died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Bonestroo fatally shot Brian Mahon, the general manager of the ski resort. When investigators searched Bonestroo’s apartment in Nederland, they found his cat dead from being killed.
