Edwin Thomas: Bus driver Edwin Thomas killed, reward offered
By Therese Lisieux on December 2nd, 2008Edwin Thomas, 46, a bus driver in New York City, was stabbed and died. Edwin Thomas was driving the B46 route. Edwin Thomas was knifed at a bus stop on Malcolm X Boulevard at Gates Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section. Thomas was attacked after 12:30 pm. Thomas’ assailant was a tall, thin, black man, who looked about 35. This attacker wore blue jeans and a hooded black sweatshirt.
Edwin Thomas’ attacker used an invalid MetroCard in the fare box and although he knew it was rejected, he took a seat beside a woman. Edwin Thomas followed procedures to avoid confrontations and said nothing about this man not paying his fare. Then, this man went up to Edwin Thomas and asked for a transfer at gates Avenue. Edwin Thomas refused him by saying he had not paid for his fare.
The attacker punched Edwin Thomas in the head twice. He stepped off the bus, then stepped back in and whipped out a knife and started slashing Thomas in the chest and torso. The assailant then ran away so quickly that 2 men from the same bus who were chasing him lost him.
Edwin Thomas had a heart attack and died at 1:11 pm.
The police, Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Local 100 of the Transport Workers Union have offered 3 rewards of $12 000 each for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer.

Police have detained a man, 20, on suspicion of stabbing Edwin Thomas. The man has confessed to police that he stabbed the bus driver. The photo of Edwin Thomas is at the link.
