Edwin Rivera, 22, a man with cerebral palsy, was left overnight on a school bus on Dec. 31. Rivera spent the night in the cold bus. Police looked for him after his parents reported him missing on Wed. evening. Rivera failed to show up at home after school.

Rivera was in the school bus for 19 hours. The temperature dropped below 20 degrees. Rivera has no function of speech so he is being evaluated at a hospital. The doctors expect Rivera to recover. Rivera’s mom, Ms. Leslie Rivera, was very upset.

The bus company did not take calls for comment nor messages.

Update. Jan. 2.

The bus matron, Linda Hockaday, has been charged for leaving Edwin Rivera on board the bus overnight. Hockaday knew Rivera fell asleep when the bus stopped at his stop in East Harlem. Hockaday, 51, did not informthe driver because she did not want to go back to East Harlem to drop off Rivera. Hockaday was late for an appointment,or wanted to hurry for her appointment. Hockday had a bail for $2500.
