Edward Van Tassel caused a commotion when he showed off a gun near a freeway. Van Tassel may have wanted to get attention to try to deliver a letter to Cruise by hand. The objective was to enlist the help of Cruise to assist the cause of veterans.

Superior Court Judge George Eskin has issued a restraining order on Van Tassel. Van Tassel should avoid approaching Cruise and his residential property. Van Tassel was ordered to return to a psychiatric hospital, where he was a patient. Edward Van Tassel was disallowed from leaving the hospital. This incident was reported on Dec 12 2008.
