Eddie and Jobo: Eddie and Jobo fired from B96

Eddie and Jobo, who had broadcast from Top 40 WBBM-FM (96.3), have been fired. It is almost unbelievable that Eddie and Jobo, who have been on radio for 20 years, have been axed. CBS2chicago.com originally reported this. Details are sketchy but another report at Sun Times hinted that Eddie and Jobo were about to begin Year 7 of their 7 year contracted deal and each was supposed to get $1.5 million. The seven figure deal was not favourable to the station. It was hinted that the pay could have been an issue.

Ed Volkman and Joe Bohannon, were with Top 40 since they joined the station in 1988. Ed Volkman and Joe Bohannon had a 20 year run with Top 40, except for a 2 year break somewhere in-between.

Ed Volkman and Joe Bohannon, aka Eddie and Jobo, goodbye and good luck.

I know these are times for sacrifices, but B96 dropping Eddie, Jobo, and Erica like they did is like most of us not buying groceries, eventually we would parish. They were B96′s Bread and Butter and now B96 is just another station to most of us, which makes means they could just fade away in a couple years if they last that long..
    What a big mistake!
Most of the comments(positive ones) I agree with as they provided laughter, enlightenment, and just all around Quality Entertainment for their listeners. As most have mentioned already, we are looking around for other stations to listen to, but the quality here, or around the country for that matter is very hard to find. I’v visited many states in the past 20+ years, including six years in Florida and have not been albe to find any station that comes even close to what Eddie and Jobo brought to the airwaves at B96. Yes, the music at some stations is comparable or better than B96, but The morning show connected with it’s listeners in a way that is hard to duplicate by many wannabe DJs. Too bad for B96…
We’ll miss you Eddie, Jobo and Erica! Let us know when you’re back on the air. President Obama needs your type of on-air personalities to help stimulate the economy by keeping us, your listeners, entertained and hopeful during this tough times.
    SALUD!

Since they were let go, I had to listen to other morning shows from other stations and nothing compares to them (E,J & E). The other stations sucks and listening to b96 morning show now is like killing myself slowly. B96 please get real djs and entertainers.

Hey I have been listening to them for the past 20+years and my son who is 13 loved to hear them in the morning we had a routine in the morning. Now I don’t even bother listening to your new dj’s!

Yes, they’ve been around a while, but that’s cuz they were good and people liked them, otherwise they wouldn’t have been around. Sorry J Nice and Julian just don’t cut the mustard for Eddie, Jobo and Erica’s spot. I liked them where they were. Sorry B96, where ever Eddie, Jobo and Erica went, that’s what I’ll be listening to. It’s just not the same.

  6. Bye Bye Bye

I stopped listening to them because the conversations were sexual in tone. It is awkward for middle age men to be addressing a teen audience like that. For all of you who have teenagers, should understand that.

I am somewhat new to the Chicago area and actually enjoyed the B96 morning show. It was my highlight to the morning drive. I couldn’t stand my drive home because the DJ sucked! Now they’ve moved him to my morning drive in place of Eddie and Jobo. I agree in that hearing the same 10 songs all day, everyday was getting old, but their morning show was funny and entertaining enough that I was willing to put up with it. I will no longer listen to B96. I wish I could find a decent radio station here. It seems to be all really old rock. Oh, well, back to books on tape. Thanks Eddie, Jobo and Erica for a good 2 year run while I was here. You’ll definitely be missed.

I used to be an avid listener to WGCI. I stopped listening to them years ago and began listening to B96. I enjoyed listening to Eddie, Jobo and Erica on my way to work. With them gone I will no listen to B96!! I was wondering what the hell happened. I said just today that I would go online to find out. I thought they were on break or something!! The new guys you have in the morning now SUCK!!!!

Hey Better than you … to your comment I would like to see how you are when you are like over 40! I know I am almost 40 and feel like my life is just beginning again. They say that a second wind is a great thing … my kids keep me young …. also KUDOS to you Kody for stickin up for poppsy! He is a gifted individual and I have been listening to him since I was like 10 years old (now my oldest child is that age and had been listening her whole life) anyway I am keeping my word and are listening to another radio station since they let Eddie V and Jobo go. Gotta stick wit my homies! So GO SOX (yay Jobo) and Eddie you are surely missed! Those young kids nowadays don’t know class if it came up and bit them in the keister!

  10. Better than you

Thank god they are gone. They made it impossible to even listen to B96 in the mornings! They are in their 40′s and acting like 18 year olds – it was really bad!!

  11. Kody Volkman

and to felix??? erica is skinny and stop hatin cause the “2 old dudes” pulled more than you. pshh. stop hatin

  12. Kody Volkman

Yup… Thanks to the dick that let them go. they were the best… and to whoever darryl is? shut the hell up no one cares what you think. they give young people ear candy. what hey wanna hear. they aint perverts so think before you speak asshole

  13. Erika

I can’t believe they are gone. They will definitely be missed. I hope this station wakes up again and brings them back. This station will lose their audience like the last time Eddie & Jobo were fired. Erica was a nice addition. Does anyone know what they are doing now?

  14. felix

Eddie and jobo and erika or as i like to call the show 2 old dudes and a fat chick. This show will not be missed bye bye and don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

  15. DIVA wit an EGO

Who’s going to catch the freaks? Erica was so good at that!!!! Now I have no reason at all to listen to B96 at all . . . they are going to lose alot of listeners over this . . . DAMN Shame

  16. steven w

These guys lost their edge years ago. Good riddance the only thing worse than these two was Mancow. Altogether these 3 make up the worst era in chicago radio -the 90′s.

  17. Gustavo

It will be nearly impossible to replace you guys, I’ve been listening for almost 20 years, there is no other radio show in the world that can compare with Eddie & Jobo. Their work was simply outstanding. Best of luck, we will miss you…

  18. Adam

It’s too bad that those two are gone, there morning show was the only reason i listened to the raido. Other than them B96 is like the worst station on the raido because they replay the same 10 songs all day long!!!!! The Drive and the Loop play songs that are like 30 years old, how come B96 cant play a song that is 1 year old?????

  19. Jax

I have been listening to these guys on B96 BEFORE they were even together. I was in 3rd grade and that was ummmm I would have to say like 1980! That is like FOREVER … Jobo was on afternoons and Eddie was with someone that I don’t even remember. I think they WERE the entire station … who cares if they were old?!?!? They have a gifted ability to connect with any audience. My kids listen to B96 and that brought me back …. I always looked forward to my days at Toyota Park when working, but those days are in the past as I no longer work there. The B Bashes were awesome and they really knew how to THROW A PARTY! This station canned them once before and almost fell apart …. well it looks like the nail in the coffin this time! Long live Eddie and Jobo! I love you all and will miss you all forever …. perhaps I will start a group on facebook entitled “bring back eddie and jobo!”

Listening to Eddie,Jobo, and Erica is was part of my routine. They made me laugh and brightened up my mornings especially with their thursday show to catch a freak. I will miss hearing them. I hope they have success in whatever they choose to do next.

  21. THJames

    More gooder for O & A

  22. Jake

Shawn u suck i love 103.5 kiss fm they are the best…day and nite…but i see where u are coming from when u say b96 is old and b96 is probably 96 years old and eddie and jobo werent funny they had lame jokes and then i laughed at themselves

  23. shawn

These guys were kind of old. I’m 30 and they were on when I was in high school. They just seem like they should have moved on years ago. Besides B96 sucks and so does 103.5 they are ruining music with pop crap and fooling kids into thinking they are listening to real hip hop. First Eddie and Jobo go and hopefully B96 altogether.

  24. Mio

I have been listening to Eddie and Jobo since I was a teen. They are a part of my morning routine. So sad to hear about it. Where ever you go Eddie and Jobo I will follow!

  25. Darryl

    ABOUT TIME.
IT WAS CREEPY LISTENING TO TWO MIDDLE AGE MEN TALKING ABOUT SEX TO TEEN AGE AUDIENCES.

  26. Megan Berlongieri
