Dr Jorge Mario Gonzalez, 56, a pulmonary specialist, was fatally shot at home. Dr Gonzalez worked at the Methodist Hospital, as the chief of the critical care department.

Dr Gonzalez lived on a ranch in Bellville, outside Houston, in Texas. Dr Gonzalez was mortally wounded on Saturday, Aug 22. Another man, a ranch hand, was shot but he has survived. He is in hospital now. His name was not released and his condition was described as serious.

Gonzalez’s wife, Charleen Gonzalez, 29, and their son, 2 years old, were unharmed. Five men entered the ranch. Police said burglary was possibly the motive for the home invasion and shooting.

Charleen Gonzalez and her baby hid in a closet while she called 911 to report a burglary was happening in her home.

When police arrived, the five suspects were fleeing. One suspect fired at an officer but missed hitting him.
