Dominick Dunne’s daughter, Dominique Dunne, was strangled in November, 1982. Dominique was an actress and her boyfriend, John Thomas Sweeney, was convicted of manslaughter.

Sweeney was sentenced to 6 and ½ years in prison. Sweeney was released after 4 ½ years. Sweeney was a chef before his conviction and after his release, he returned to the same vocation. Dunne’s family protested when a restaurant in Santa Monica hired him.

Dominick Dunne was unhappy Sweeney was released after such a short time. Dunne paid for some detective tracking work to keep tabs on Sweeney. Dunne discovered Sweeney changed his name to John Maura.

Dunne hired the famous Anthony Pellicano to keep track of Sweeney until he felt he didn’t want to spend the remainder of his life consumed by the guilt and remorse of his daughter’s death.

Dominick Dunne died on August 26, at the age of 86. Dunne was a reporter for Vanity Fair, gossip columnist and Hollywood producer.
