Diane Fanning, 54, was eating lunch at Cape Fear BBQ and Chicken, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, when Sen. Barack Obama walked into the diner. Diane Fanning shouted “Socialist! Socialist! Socialist! Get out of here!” Obama walked over to her table and offered his hand to her. Fanning refused to shake Obama’s hand but asked him about the North American Union.

Obama told her they would not give up sovereignty in that way. He asked Fanning if she had further questions but she declined. The reaction at the diner from the same group of people was mixed. There were supporters for McCain, as well as Obama.
