Updated March 31: Devan Kalathat, an engineer at Yahoo Inc, killed his son, Akhil Dev, 11, his daughter, Negha Dev, 4, his brother-in-law, Ashok Appu Poothemkandi, 35, his sister-in-law, Suchitra Sivaraman, 25, and his niece, Ahana Ashok, 11 months old. The murders-suicide happened in a home in Santa Clara, Calif.

Devan Kalathat, 42, was described as a civil man. Kalathat worked in yahoo since 2004. Sources said Kalathat was not in danger of losing his job.

Devan Kalathat’s wife was also shot but she survived. Her name was not released by police. She is warded in hospital in a very grave condition.

Ashok Appu Poothemkandi, 35, his wife Suchitra Sivaraman, 25, and his infant daughter, Ahana Ashok were staying with Kalathat while he searched for a job. Pothemkandi and his family arrived from India a fortnight ago.

Devan Kalathat was born Raghavan Devarajan. He changed his name legally at some point of time after he migrated to the US 15 years ago.

Ashokan had relocated to the US after being assigned there by Hewlett Packard Bangalore.

The wife of the alleged gunman is identified as Aabha Devarajan by India’s newspaper. Aabha’s father is Appu Master, 80.

S. Raghavan, 79, is the father of R. Devarajan. S Raghavan is reportedly in the US, trying to arrange for the dead bodies to be flown back to India. Raghavan said they are waiting for Aabha to regain consciousness to tell them what happened. (Source)

The Santa Clara shooting occurred on Sunday night, March 29. Five people were fatally shot to death in the Santa Clara shooting, California. The Santa Clara shooting happened inside a townhouse. Two of the five dead were children.

A neighbor of the townhouse saw an injured person outside the house a round 8:30pm PT (11:30 ET). This person supposedly called the police. Officers found other victims of the shootings inside the town house in Santa Clara.

Police suspect the Santa Clara shootings to be planned murder-suicide. The assailant shooter may be one of the dead people discovered in the home. Police have not released the names of the dead.

Two wounded victims of the same shooting in Santa Clara were discovered alive and sent to hospital. One of these two was an infant girl who died in hospital.

Of the two adults dead in the Santa Clara home, one was an adult male who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The adult female who survived the shooting is hospitalized in a serious condition.
