Degos disease was discovered by Kohlmeier in 1941. However, the disease was named after Robert Degos in 1942 as he was the first to recognize it as a clinical entity.

Degos disease is a rare disease that affects the veins and arteries. The blood vessels become blocked and suffer tissue infarction. This disease is so rare that only about 50 living people have it worldwide.

Treatment for Degos disease involves taking drugs containing antiplatelets, anticoagulants, and immuno-suppressants.

Degos disease may be a result of other vascular systemic disorders.
