David Reimer was born a boy but raised a girl. David was born as Bruce Reimer but he had phimosis. His surgeons treated his male sex organ but it was overdone and beyond surgical repair.

A psychologist, Dr. John Money persuaded the Reimer parents to reassign sex for Bruce. The surgeons made Bruce as Brenda Reimer. Brenda Reimer could not adjust to being raised a girl even with the help of hormones. By 13, Brenda decided to become David Reimer.

David Reimer had problems in life. His twin brother Brian then had schizophrenia and mental problems. Brian Reimer, the twin, died in 2002 from a toxic dose of alcohol and antidepressants.

On May 5, 2004, David Reimer committed suicide after he learned that his wife wanted a divorce.
