David C. Dykhoff & David M. Dober out of USS George Washington
By Clarencia Cynrae on July 31st, 2008Adm. Robert F. Willard, commander of the Pacific Fleet, relieved the carrier USS George Washington’s commanding officer, Capt. David C. Dykhoff, and the executive officer, Capt. David M. Dober, of duty. They were slacking. The fire on May 22, 2008, that caused $70 million damages was due to a crew member who was smoking near flammable substances. 23 sailors were injured.
Many relatives of the sailors were extremely worried after the fire because the sailors had no access to email or means to call out. It was very tough to trust and live day by day until one of them got the word out that the sailors were all right. People feared deaths. So, the news was very welcomed.
