How ironic! This was the middle of NBC’s “Green Week” and NBC celebrated by booting off the entire staff of “Forecast Earth” (an environmental program), and also firing studio meteorologists. NBC’s first major changes to The Weather Channel (TWC) since buying it in September involved these staff layoffs. Eighty staff ended up axed.
The meteorologists who were sacked include Dave Schwartz, Cheryl Lemke and Eboni Deon. NBC released an official statement to explain that the economy and cost synergies were responsible for the company reorganization.

The latest is some Coast Guard show. And, as usual, the Weather Channel has to show off those little 5 year old kids in every Coast Guard episode, like they do in all their commercials.
I miss Dave too he was funny, made cute comments.Like Cbs getting rid of Leah Reminiand Holly Robinson Peete,Stupid costly moves!
Just had a delightful suprise — Cheryl Lemke is filling in at one of the South Bend, Indiana, television stations while two of their meteorologists are out on maternity leave! I feel like it’s Christmas in August! I’ve missed Cheryl on TWC — can’t imagine why they ever let her go. But their loss is our gain — at least temporarily. I’m really going to enjoy her presence on WSBT until it’s time for her to return to Atlanta.
I, too, have been considerably less than thrilled with TWC since NBC took over. I keep tuning in, trying to find an actual weather report, and find instead the seventy-third rerun of an “It Could Happen Tomorrow” episode. Wise up, Weather Channel — if I want pre-recorded drama I can always watch my “Twister” DVD (“Another cow.” “Actually, I think it’s the same one!”).
This is the first time I read what happened to the beloved meteorologists of when the TWC was topgun of weather. I kept TWC on most of the time as I relied on accurate weather forcasts to fly. Now I can watch TWC, Days of our lives or the young and the restless with equal enthusiam. About the same drama with the same type of actors. So I watch only weather on the 8′s and that isn’t all the time like before. What the heck happened to TWC?
Was just surfing to find out whatever happened to Dave Schwartz after leaving TWC. I know it’s been over 2 years, but it just isn’t the same without him- he was THE BEST WEATHER PERSONALITY- and WHAT A PERSONALITY!!! – now TWC is kinda like watching Carson when he had a sit-in covering- just not as good- something’s missing. It’s NEVER TOO LATE TO RIGHT A WRONG, NBC- BRING BACK DAVE. He would have somehow made all of us feel “hopeful” after the recent weather disasters this past spring- his classic “tongue-in- cheek’ mutterings always made us smile and “see the rainbow”- Big mistake, letting him go- don’t watch like I used to, probably never will- “Under the weather about Dave” in PA.
You are absolutely correct! You seldom hear a weather report on these states.
I have watched the WC from the beginning also. I loved to watch all the regular meterologists and deeply regret their dismissal.
Today’s WC is difficult to watch. I want weather not movies, news and only small bits of storm stories. I do like the science of weather.
Whoever owns the WC please listen more to the viewers. The changes of the past 2 years have been a disservice to the viewers.
As I understand it, Steve Lyons is now Meteorologist in Charge at a weather station in San Angelo, Texas. I was stationed at the AFB there, back in 1967-8. Media reports say he wanted to go back to the field. Unless he loves west Texas, I wonder. I do miss Dave, he was friendly and congenial without be obnoxious. I hope Jeanetta is doing better. I’m not sure the replacements are as good as the group that used to be there.
WTG NBC You seem to screw up everything. I will not have the Weather Channel on in my house again. I wondered why I could not find Dave on. Now I know. Stupid Liberals. Global Warming my behind. Dave was too good for them anyway. You learned about the weather and small towns when he was on. My local network, (not nbc) will get more watching time. BOO BOO NBC!!!
NBC is so far to the left. They push the global warming agenda on the public. It is shameful. The Weather Channel is a scam to get an unsuspecting public to believe in global warming or upside down earth or whatever they are calling it now. Ms. Heidi lefty is a disgrace to science esp. the science of meteorology….there’s no shame anymore; only agendas.
Better looks and boobs is NBC’s strategy. We’re not dumb NBC / Comcast. We get it. Your so tasteful.
Can’t believe about Dave Schwartz Where is he? Since he has been gone they could wipe NORTH DAKOTA, MONTANA, AND SOUTH DAKOTA off the map according to the other meteorologists, at least when he was there I WATCHED the weather channel now its all I hear is New York, Chicago, Minneapolis etc. BIG cities. Thanks for all the great years Dave and best wishes to you. I will have to revert back to my local channel to get the weather I guess!!!
Dave was the best. I tuned in just to watch his show. The opposite. Is true about. The retained Jim cantorie. His ego is so big I change channels. To avoid him. NBC….numbnuts!
I think it was a HUGE Misteak getting rid of Dave
Schwaertz, and Sharon Resultan. They were my favorites.I will not watch the Weather Channel anymore.
Nice move, NBC. Let the best meteorology team in TV history go and keep the cheap bimbos. Is Heidi sleeping with the board like Ann Marie did to get and keep her job or did her Daddy pay you well to get her out of his house?
Roker is unwatchable. I instantly turn off TWC when he appears. But it is his big longterm contract that started the falling dominoes. We all have/had our favorites, not the identical ones, but NO ONE is asking for Roker!
For the record, my favorite TWC moments were the late evening Dave & Hilary ones. They sincerely enjoyed working together and it communicated right off the screen. Abrams looks terrified of sharing the camera with Roker–I can’t bear it.
Change the name to the Weather Drama Channel ’cause that’s all we get these days. Where does Roker get off as being a weatherman? He’s an actor-comedian, and not funny at that!! Stephanie Abrams is a most obnoxious yenta/know-it-all and a dead-ringer for Dinah Shore! She’s a control freak and MUST be the center of attention. When Bettes was in the middle of the live tornado report last year she tried to wrestle control of the report from Bettes, who was there live in the field!! Save for Seidel, Morrow and a few others the REAL meteorolgists are gone. Now they’re actors or wanna-be weathergeeks with pretty faces. Glad to see Alex Steele go, she was another member of the “look at me, I’m so important and so obnoxious” club. Bring back Schwartzy, Keneely and the rest of the real weather geeks and get rid of the actors!!
What happended to the Weather Channel?
Where is the WEATHER?
I Want to know about the weather, If I want news I’ll watch news.
Maybe its time for Weather Underground to pick up the discards and start a real TV network with
JUST WEATHER!
Bill Keneely was let go, after 28 yrs, back in June. He is disgusted with TV’s current mentally of putting young, jiggly things on the air with no substance. He has no plans of ever getting back into TV only to be replaced by someone who is only hired for their looks. Age equals experience. Weather is a science that also relies heavily on gut instinct – something that only comes with years of experience. Bill could read those computer models and instinctually know how to interpret them. None of those newbies can do what the veterans are capable of doing. Those veterans built that channel to what it is today. NBC appears to be methodically destroying it. At the rate they are going, they can forget about ever recouping their $3.5 Billion dollar investment. Sad.
I try once in awhile but I just can’t take 2 seconds of Cantore…. I want Dave back! And Cheryl. Heather Tesh is still great and that is the ONLY time I watch. Carl’s pretty good too. I used to watch all the time, leave the channel on for company, but no more!
I have watched the Weather Channel since it’s start and loved it. I watched like it was the only program on TV. I knew all the Anchors and their time slots. Did I mention that I loved it! Not only me, alot in my family too… Now that NBC has killed it… We no longer watch! None of us! We all missed TWC great anchors who were trusted and loved and we missed the real time weather. The progaming is no longer TWC, instead it’s a designer idea of what TWC should be, and it’s all WRONG! Sinced you got rid of all thoes beloved Anchors, we got rid of YOU! NBC, you screwed yourself again…hah!!!
WHY BILL KENEELY? HE WAS THE ONLY PERSON TO KNOW AND TO PRONOUNCE LITTLE KNOWN TOWNS & CITIES BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE ON TV…NOT JUST TWC. SO SAD, SO BAD! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE BILL HAS GONE TO?
What were they thinking!!! This was a bad move to let Dave and the others go!! (Just an opinion from a 6 year schooled and sealed meteorologist). Sorry about your ratings in advanced!!
TWC is now a complete joke. I can’t stand watching it for more than 2 minutes, if I can even find an actual forecast going on and not some lame programming with Drama Cantore. And that’s really sad for me because I used to wake up with The Weather Channel every morning! Now all I see are Abrams & Bettes that it feels like torture to watch instead of entertaining. Dave Schwartz was the best thing to happen to weather programming EVER. I’ve never laughed so much watching the weather and used to tell everyone they need to watch this guy because he truly was one-of-a-kind. It seems all these major networks are losing their IQ at a rate faster that I can count. Just look what CBS did with The Price is Right…what a joke.
Dave, I wish you the best in your future. You truly made the weather entertaining, and I am TICKED that they let you go. I am no longer watching TWC and will continue with my self-boycott knowing that they not only trashed TWC, but got rid of the on-air-personality that I enjoyed the most, and I’m definitely not alone in that regard.
I have been wondering where all of those familiar faces were. I shrugged it off until I missed Betty’s perkiness back in August. She and Kelly seemed to have such wnderful chemistry. Dave, Cheryl, Eboni, as well as all of the other many meteorologists/journalists were wonderful examples of professionalism that made the weather channel worth watching. Each on-air personality (and I’m quite sure those that were not visible on TV or heard on the radio)hasbeen missed and will continue to be missed for quite some time to come.
TWC must do something about Stephanie Abrams. She must be the most obnoxious, rudest, loud-mouthed irritant in the world. Not to mention, she knows EVERYTHING! I don’t understand how Mike can put up with her.
Like other viewers, I’ve watched TWC for many years. Now, I tune in for the ’8s’ only.
I was wondering where Mark Macusco had gone to. He was a favorite.(no nonsense, calm, etc.)Also wondering about Christina Abernathy, Betty Davis and Jeanetta Jones and the others(Bill Keneely, Cheryl,Eboni. I do like Abram and Bettis, but think Abram is getting out of hand and needs to be more professional. Bettis tries, but seems to get drawn in. As f/ Al Roker I could do w/o the Wake Up w/ Al segment every morn. Weather channel was always a favorite, but has lost it.
So when is the weather channel gonna get it .we want the weather. Plain and simple. Not Stephs constant rambling on about this and that
Since all these professional people have left its just not the same. I rarely tune into the Weather Channel anymore. Glad I got a computer now.
It was a wise move of Biblical proportions to let Dave Schwartz go my friend.
NBC has never been especially well managed and this adds to their portfolio of decisions combating the perception there isn’t a brain to be shared at the top.
