Dark Knight Review Spoilers on Batman & Joker
By Clarencia Cynrae on July 19th, 2008I watched and wrote the review of The Dark Knight here. Heath Ledger’s second last piece of work was The Dark Knight. Heath Ldger’s last piece was a film called “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” but this was incomplete at the time of his death on Jan 22, 2008.
The Joker and Batman.
The Dark Knight Full Movie played at The Dark Knight Box Office. Presently, The Dark Knight has collected $18.5 million.
Warning – Batman 3 and the Joker spoilers ahead.
Heath Ledger gave a brilliant performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight, or Batman 3. In The Dark Knight, the Batman did not die. The Joker did not die because Batman refused to let the Joker die.
In the final battle, The Joker set 3 of his big dogs on Batman. The Joker used this unfair advantage to pin Batman down and almost succeeds in killing Batman. Batman used one of his costume contraptions to disarm the Joker and kicks him overhead. The Joker falls down the rooftop and down the building but Batman uses his web string to catch a leg hold on The Joker. The Joker gives a last monologue to Batman to explain his philosophy and his take on things in life.
Heath Ledger’s Joker was persuasive and convincing. The Joker told how he had played the Mafia and its chief accountant against one another. The Joker has done some good. He asked and received half of the Mafia’s savings as his fee for capturing the Mafia’s unfaithful accountant. He lit the huge pile of money in a bonfire and burned the Mafia’s accountant at the tip, like a stake burning.
The Joker made the good guys of Gotham City fight one another. That dissent solved the problems of dealing with the people himself.
Harvey Dent had his signature too and that was his special coin. It was a coin with 2 heads and whenever he tossed the coin, he never lost for both sides were heads. That was a trick he used on people. While he was still good, he used both heads. When Rachel died, the coin in her possession turned black from a burning. Harvey Dent used the black side as the bad side.
“Why so serious?” is the Joker’s standard line. Whenever he intimidates someone, he may suddenly pop up this question, “Why so serious?” It is ironic because in the face of life and death for the victim who is intimidated, The Joker asks, “Why so serious?”
Harvey Dent, the Mayor of Gotham City, dies in a fall. Harvey Dent was a hero who was played out by the Joker. When the love of his life died, Harvey Dent became bitter. The two faces of Harvey Dent became alive. The film played along the tag line; either you live long enough to die a hero, or you live long enough to become the villain.
The Joker’s henchmen had tied up Harvey Dent and Rachel at two different locations. During his escape, Harvey was set alight and his face, that was drenched in keroscene, was torched. Half of his face burned. The other was good. That was how he used the nickname, Two Face Harvey. Harvey deliberately refused skin grafts and other treatments for his face. He lost his Rachel and could not come to terms with her death.
Batman asked the Police Commissioner to make Harvey Dent the hero, even though Harvey became a villain who took revenge for the death of his beloved Rachel. Harvey Dent knew that he was the two face one. Batman chose to be depicted as the villain as a sacrifice.
Batman thought that Rachel was ready to love him and settle with him if he gave up his masquerade as Batman. Rachel wrote a note to explain that she was ready to stand by Bruce Wayne, Batman’s human character, as a friend. However, Batman’s butler has burnt the last testament because he deemed it unsuitable to destroy Bruce Wayne’s illusions of Rachel.
The Joker lives and might be continued in another Batman movie.
