Darine Stern was the first African American to pose for Playboy in October, 1971. Stern’s iconic pose has been the inspiration for another first.

Marge Simpson is the first female cartoon character to pose for Playboy. Simpson’s pose imitates Stern’s iconic pose. Playboy’s editorial director said they decided to use Darine Stern as an inspiration because Marge Simpson and Stern shared the big, bountiful hairdo.
