Danny Gokey’s wife, Sophia Gokey, had a congenital heart condition. Sophia Gokey had two surgeries when she was younger. Sophia was having her third heart surgery when she died on the operating table on July 9, 2008. Daniel Gokey related the story of his wife, who inspired him to enter American Idol.

Sophia Linnette Martinez Gokey’s husband has established a foundation in her memory. Sophia’s Heart Foundation (SHF) aims to donate musical instruments to young people unable to afford them. The Sophia L Gokey Scholarship Fund donates $1000 worth scholarships to needy high school students. The foundation is at sophiasheart.org. Danny Gokey sang “Endless Love” by Lionel Richie, which was in the movie Endless Love. Gokey sang Endless Love on American Idol on April 14.

Ryan Seacrest chatted with Gokey about his picking up a musical instrument. Gokey bought a guitar because he was bored with singing. Gokey can’t play it yet for his American Idol appearances as he has a long way to go to pick up the ropes for his guitar.

Gokey ditched his spectacles and looked different. What do you think of the new Danny Gokey makeover? Gokey looks better without glasses.

Gokey sounded like he sang the ballad style song for his late first wife. At the end of the song, Gokey looked upwards like as if he directed his last note at a higher place.

Simon Cowell gave Gokey credit for singing the song emotionally. Cowell did not mention the late Mrs Gokey but he clearly referred to her indirectly.
