Billy Joe Best is believed to be traveling with Daniel Hauser and Colleen Hauser. Best was also a Hodgekin disease patient in 1994 when he was 16 years old.
Best thought he knew what was best for him when he rebelled against chemotherapy treatment and ran away. Best said he used natural remedies to cure himself. He may have been one of those in the 5% group who could get healed without aggressive cancer treatment.

Daniel Hauser & Nemenhah Band: Judge ruling on Hauser & Nemenhah Band (photos)
Daniel Hauser, 13, has Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer. The judge in Minnesota rule Hauser must get conventional medical treatment. The judge gave Colleen and Anthony Hauser , the parents of Daniel Hauser, until May 19 to get a new X-Ray for Daniel Hauser. Colleen and Anthony Hauser must also choose an oncologist for Daniel.
The judge ruled that Daniel Hauser was medically neglected and needed child protection services. The judge said Daniel had only basic understanding of his illness and how serious it is.
The Hauser parents only sent Daniel for one chemotherapy treatment in February. Colleen Hauser claimed Daniel refused chemotherapy fro his religious reasons. Colleen Hauser said she would defy the court even if the judge ordered it.
Colleen Hauser said Daniel wanted to treat his cancer with natural remedies and alternative medicine. The Hauser couple has 8 children. Colleen Hauser said that although her family is Roman Catholic, she saw no conflict with her faith in Nemenhah Band and Catholicism.
Daniel Hauser’s cancer is treatable and he has 90% chances of survival with chemotherapy and radiation. Without conventional treatment, Hauser has only 5% chances of surviving Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
The Hausers believe in the Nemenhah Band. This Nemenhah Band is a group established in the 1990s by Philip Cloudpiler Landis. Landis founded the faith called the Nemenhah Band after he treated his own cancer with diet, sweat ledge therapy and other natural remedies.
Colleen Hauser said Daniel is an elder in Nemenhah Band and is a medicine man. Mrs Hauser meant Daniel understood what he was selecting over conventional cancer treatment. There is some dispute on how well Daniel knows what he is choosing as he has a learning disability and can’t read.
