Dale Helmig life sentence for Norma Helmig death
By Therese Lisieux on May 30th, 2009Dale Helmig reported his mother, Norma Helmig, missing on July 30, 1993. Two days later on Aug 1 1993, Norma Helmig’s body was found in the river. Norma Helmig was suspected to have been killed and dumped into the water as her body had a concrete block tied at her waist.
The possible suspects were Dale Helmig and Norma’s sister, Dorothy Bauer and her husband Alex Bauer. Dale said Norma’s car keys could be found in her purse. Dorothy Bauer and Alex said Norma usually wore her keys on her belt loop. Dale and Dorothy knew Norma would be dressed in her dressing/ night gown. It was common for elderly people to wear pajamas/ night wear at home most of the time.
The owner of a tow truck and Dorothy Bauer testified that there may have been tension between Dale and Norma. Norma Helmig was addicted to prescription drugs and her spleen showed traces of drugs. The concrete block tied to her waist strongly suggested her body was concealed because of a reason.
Dale Helmig’s lawyer may have ill advised him not to testify in his own defense. Dale Helmig was sentenced on March 9, 1996. Helmig was convicted of first degree murder. Dale Helmig was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
