Cornelia Wallace, former Alabama First Lady, has died. Cornelia Wallace (photos below) was best remembered for her bravery in shielding her husband’s body after he was shot. Cornelia Wallace threw herself over the then Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace, when he was shot, in a 1972 assassination attempt.

George Wallace recovered but was paralyzed in his legs. The photo of Cornelia Wallace made the cover of Life magazine in 1972.

Cornelia Wallace died on Thur., Jan 8, in Florida. Cornelia Wallace was 69 when she died.
